My diet since I have been here has consisted largely of sugar and carbs.  And LOTS of each.  But, since we are tromping around all day long it has been great.  I can pretty much eat whatever I want and not gain any weight.  In fact, as much as I am eating I am still losing weight from all the walking I do.  I am half tempted to find a place away from the metro just so I can continue these eating habits.  We all know how I like to eat.

Us Amerikys have some sneaky guilty pleasures here.  One being late night McDonald’s because for some reason it tastes so much better here.  Another was the TGI Friday’s nearby.  We went there for the salads with lettuce.   I have only done the McD’s thing twice and that was a late night mistake and the Friday’s thing once which was just a stupid idea.  Two of us spent $50 at Fridays and all we ordered were salads and non-alcoholic drinks!  $50 at Fridays?!?!?!

One of the best guilty pleasures, however, is this little cafe called Bohemia Bagel.  It is owned by some American and offers breakfast styles more familiar to us homesick puppies.  So we go there for bottomless coffee and sodas and bagels with real Philadelphia cream cheese!

But, don’t worry.  This doesn’t happen very often either.  I have only been twice to Bohemia Bagel since I have been here.  We have actually been quite good at eating at local restaurants and pubs and trying out traditional Czech cuisine which consists largely of roasted pork, bread dumplings, and red cabbage.  My next adventure will be the roast pig knee which they bring to you on a spit.

People sitting around us always seem so astonished that we have cleaned our plates.  Every meal each of us downs whatever we ordered and they have to take the plates away from us before we start eating it.  People literally start laughing and snickering at us, but I don’t think they understand that we are simply famished from all the work we have been doing.  Grammar really takes it out of you!

Ah, but I only have one more week of this punishing behavior.  Today begins the last week of the course  I couldn’t be more pleased that it is almost over.  I am ready to find a place of my own that has a kitchen so I can finally cook again, or a bed that has some fluff to it, and most importantly, no bitchy receptionist giving me the stare down every time I enter or leave.  When I find this place, I am on the track to recovery and getting my poor body back on track.  Ah, the price I pay…could be worse I suppose.
