Austria

Our last stop on our lovely road trip was in Vienna. Only 4 hours from Prague, I have heard about several of my friend’s journeys here, but had never made it myself and was anxious to see what it was all about.

This city is huuuge! I had no idea. I was expecting quiet little streets with Austrians in lederhosen singing carols and skipping about. But, this was a major metropolitan city (with some more great shops!).

Not quiet enough time to see it all here either, but we took a nice horse carriage ride that showed us what we needed to see. Vienna is awesome though…Austria takes the cake for most beautiful country I’ve seen yet.

We couldn’t see it well, so we sent Mikayla on a mission to check it out. WARNING: Do not let your children travel with us. We are keen on sending them through construction zones to scope out potential tourist hot spots.

Various buildings around town…They are pretty but I don’t really know much more than that.

We had 5 days. We traveled through 4 countries. And, we did it in 1 škoda Fabia.

Leaving the CR we drove south through some gorgeous towns and beautiful Czech country side and crossed over to Austria. In Linz, we went west to Salzburg where we stopped for the first night. We found a nice little hotel, dropped our bags, and set off to check out the hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Salzburg is a small town of under 200,000 people and is well preserved with its baroque architecture (thanks to UNESCO). It is nicely wrapped by a few peaks of the Alps and is easily recognizable as the location for the movie The Sound of Music.

After eating an authentic Austrian Italian meal we walked around town a bit and were up early the next morning to take part in the farmer’s markets, the sightseeing tours, and some unbelievable window shopping.

When we couldn’t find Nana, we just looked to the nearest tourist group as she was usually blending in to get us the scoop on the need-to-know information of the town we were in.

While Salzburg was an absolutely beautiful town, we were ready to move south to Croatia. We packed up and headed out. But, the Austiran hills sang to us all the way down.
